Activating 100% Sheets in GCSE Language and Literature

Jo is an English practitioner with thirty years of experience behind her as classroom teacher, Head of English, Principal Examiner for GCSE English Language and Principal Moderator for iGCSE English Language. Jo now works to support English departments on a freelance basis. The author of a number of textbooks and study guides, Jo’s most recent publication ‘Enriching English: Curriculum with Soul’ is a tiny handbook for English department success. Championing inclusion, diversity and creativity in the English Classroom, Jo was recently awarded a Fellowship of The English Association.

• Gain key insights into the AQA English Language mark scheme and improve your own practice in both teaching and assessment. Jo will explain the descriptors, explore methods to use with students to help them achieve more clarity in their responses and transform the way you mark forever.
• Jo will also explore strategies to increase the accessibility of the non-fiction paper for students and help them to tackle the reading tasks with increased confidence and a ‘less is more’ approach. • The session will cover different methods in which students can up-level their descriptive writing, based on Christopher Youles’ ‘Sentence Models for Creative Writing,’ to ensure that internally stored sentence structures and tier 2 vocabulary are not forgotten.

An Approach to Planning and Delivering English Masterclasses in Literature and Language for Grades 7-9
