Job Title: Trust Senior Lead for Science

• This session will look at a variety of methods to support long-term retrieval of scientific knowledge. This will include understanding the importance of memory, cognitive load, revisiting knowledge after a gap and encouraging elaboration.
• After this session, colleagues will feel confident in applying a variety of techniques to support students in long-term retrieval.

Raising Attainment through Planning

Session Presenter: AQA Science Exam Board

• AQA will be delivering a session to support the development of expert practice in preparing students for extended response questions based on planning the required practicals.
• This session will enable colleagues to confidently deliver support for students when attempting 6-mark questions on the required practicals.

Required Practical 'Know-how' Support

Job Title: Principle Education Lead – STEM Learning Network

• This session is designed to provide science technicians with more insight into supporting science teachers with the setup and delivery of the required practicals.
•  By the end of the session, science technicians will be able to support teaching and learning in the science faculty by knowing quick fixes for the required practicals and how to best set the practical up.

Delivering High-Quality Chemistry

• This session will cover some of the more complex chemistry topics from the GCSE in combined science and show how a non-specialist can feel confident in delivering this subject content.

• This session will cover a number of practicals that can be difficult to deliver effectively and that students struggle to get valid results for.
• After this session, colleagues will feel confident in resolving issues with practicals for science teachers to support teaching and learning.

Raising Attainment through Marking

Session Presenter: AQA Science Exam Board

• This session will cover mark scheme awareness and understanding, focusing on the areas AQA would like to highlight in mark scheme application.
• After completing this session, delegates will have increased confidence in application of the mark scheme to support effective and accurate assessment decisions. Insights will also support colleagues in ensuring they pass on mark scheme awareness to students to raise attainment.

Effective Use of Feedback to Raise Attainment

• This session will explore the vast amount of crossover between these two core subjects. In particular, we will explore the common language Maths and Science teachers can use to reduce the cognitive load for students.
• During this session delegates will practice preparing a crossover curriculum for Maths and Science.

• This session is focused on raising awareness of practical supplies to ensure students have access to equipment that supports their learning.
• At the end of this session, colleagues will be able to return to their science teams with insight into how practical work can be improved and developed at their school.
